Edinburgh: Netflix reveals string of unscripted originals
Netflix’s VP of unscripted Brandon Reigg revealed a list of upcoming titles on the platform during his first Edinburgh TV Festival appearance.
New titles will include Final Table, a global competition featuring the world’s most renowned chefs, from UK Masterchef duo Robin Ashbrook and Yasmin Shackleton.
Global magic title, Death by Magic, starring British magician Drummond Money-Coutts will also be on the slate. Money-Coutts will travel around the world exploring the most dangerous stunts ever attempted.
A Derren Brown special will also make an appearance on the platform later this year.
Fullwell 73’s Sunderland Till I Die will be on the list as one of Netflix’s latest factual sports titles. It will be launched to global audiences on December 14, 2018.
Lastly comedy game show Flinch will also arrive on the platform later this year. The show is set on a remote farm in the hills of Ireland where brave and foolish contestants gather to test their nerve against three fiendish games.
Reigg reassured producers in the audience that the platform is continuing to look to work with UK talent. While Netflix prefers stories than resonate globally, there are many ways in which British concepts can translate across the world.
He added that the UK is “the birthplace of iconic formats”.
The best way to contact Netflix is through its unscripted team via email. If a project is a documentary over entertainment format, it is best to contact the documentary team led by Diego Bunuel in the UK, according to Reigg.
