Netflix picks up Marie Kondo series on ‘the magic of tidying up’
Netflix has ordered an unscripted series with author and home organisation guru Marie Kondo (pictured), for a show based on her book The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up.
The yet-to-be-titled season will consist of eight episodes and is produced by The Jackal Group, the prodco former Fox entertainment chief Gail Berman founded in 2014.
Kondo will guide viewers who are at a crossroads to only hold on to things that bring joy into their homes, according to Netflix.
Kondo’s books, which aim to push her KonMari method of organising belongings to create joy, have been translated in Korean, Chinese, Germany, English and French, according to the New York Times.
Executive producers will be Berman, Jackal Group president Joe Earley, Takumi Kawahara and Kondo. Bianca Barnes-Williams will act as showrunner.
Berman said: “Marie created an incredible global movement to inspire personal understanding through mindful organisation.
“We’ve seen individuals undergo astonishing and moving personal journeys simply by applying Marie’s approach to their own homes, and we are delighted to work with her and Netflix to share her methods.”
Kondo added: “My mission is to organise the world and spark joy in people’s lives. Through this partnership with Netflix, I am excited to spread the KonMari method to as many people as possible.”
Valentine’s Day surprise! I will be bringing the life-changing magic of tidying to a show on Netflix, where I’ll be guiding individuals to spark joy in their homes and lives.
