ITV orders prom doc from Grant Mansfield prodco
UK commercial broadcaster ITV has commissioned Prom Crazy: Frocks and Ferraris, a one-hour doc about American-style prom events in the UK.
The one-off ob-doc will follow a group of teens as they prepare for prom night and then on the big night itself. It will also look at the businesses springing up to cater to teens on prom night.
UK indie Plimsoll Productions will make the one-off for ITV. Plimsoll is the London- and Bristol-based producer set up by former Zodiak USA boss Grant Mansfield (pictured) last year.
Katy Thorogood, ITV’s factual commissioning editor, and Richard Klein, director of factual, ordered the show.
Thorogood said: “School proms encapsulate and accentuate many of the attitudes and emotions wrapped up in being a teenager in Britain today and this film sets out to capture this key moment – the social highpoint of secondary school – and its insight into the fun, fascination and febrility of young lives.”
Mansfield added: “We couldn’t be happier to partner with ITV to document the frenzy of prom season. It’s an insightful look into the rituals of planning, preparation and pampering that go hand in hand with this major milestone in a teen’s life.”
