ITV orders Celebrity Squares reboot
UK commercial broadcaster ITV has ordered a revamped version of Celebrity Squares.
The gameshow reboot will be produced by DCD Media-owned prodco September Films and GroupM Entertainment, the production arm of the media buying business GroupM.
As with the original version of the show, the new Celebrity Squares will be based upon noughts and crosses, with a celebrity in each of the boxes on the grid on which the game takes place.
The first version of the show, Hollywood Squares, was produced for US network NBC and CBS Studios International owns and distributes the format.
The UK version will debut later this year.
Warwick Davis (Harry Potter, Life’s Too Short) will present. He said: “Celebrity Squares is one of those special television shows that everyone remembers – I grew up watching it, and I’m thrilled to be presenting this updated version of a TV classic.”
Richard Foster, managing director, GroupM Entertainment, said: “We are very pleased to be partnering with CBS and September to bring this iconic show back to ITV.”
ITV’s director of comedy and entertainment Elaine Bedell commissioned the series.
