UBM-Cooked-In-Africa_Penguin-Books-with-All3media-InternationalAll3Media International has picked up rights to a cooking show from South Africa, the first time it has acquired a format from the country and the wider region.

The distributor will sell the Ultimate Braai Master format internationally.

The show is produced by from Cape Town based producer Cooked in Africa Films and sees amateur chefs compete against one another in outdoor cooking challenges.

Fifteen pairs of cooks embark on a 60-day road trip and take part in challenges including catching and cooking their own food and recreating classic dishes on an open fire.

In South Africa the show has run to two seasons on public broadcaster the SABC beating other cooking formats including the South African version of MasterChef.

A third season of Ultimate Braai Master is currently in production, but will go out on the SABC’s commercial rival ETV.

All3Media said international broadcasters could make cost-effective local versions of the show on location in South Africa.

Nick Smith, vice president, formats at the company said: “We’re delighted to secure Ultimate Braai Master for our portfolio, marking our first format acquisition from Africa. Cooked in Africa Films has developed an impressive original format which is perfect for international adaptation.”

All3Media will launch the format internationally at MIPTV in April.
