Netflix readies Argentinian drama with Burman
Netflix is working with Supermax creator Daniel Burman to create its first Argentinian-produced original, Edha.
The series will film entirely in the South American company and launch on the SVOD service globally in 2017.
Burman, who is creating Globo’s first international drama, Supermax, is writing alongside Mario Segade. The writer’s room from Burman’s production company, Oficina Burman, will also contribute to the scripts.
Season one will run to 13 episodes and begin shooting early next year.
The plot will follow a successful, young fashion designer and single mother who falls for a handsome immigrant-turned-model with a strong desire for revenge.
“The fashion and music scene in Buenos Aires is unique, sexy and exciting and Daniel Burman and his team are among Argentina’s most gifted creators,” said Erik Barmack, vice president of international original series at Netflix. “We can’t wait to present Edha and her dramatic story to Netflix members around rest of the world.”
California-based Netflix has been ramping up its local production efforts in Latin America, having already greenlit two Brazilian-produced dramas, 3% and a Jose Padilha effort; Mexican dramas Ingobernable and Club de Cuervos; and the Colombian-shot Narcos.
Earlier this, US Hispanic network Univision revealed was coproducing a new drama about Mexican drug kingpin, Joaquin Guzman, titled El Chapo, with Netflix. The story will launch on Univision-owned UniMas before debuting on Netflix.
Club de Cuervos and Narcos will also air on Univision channels as a result of the coproduction partnership.
