Hulu rescues The Mindy Project
US streaming and catch up service Hulu has commissioned a 26-part season of the The Mindy Project after US network Fox cancelled the comedy series earlier this year.
Fox axed it after three seasons and Hulu has now stepped in and struck a deal with Universal Television, which produces the show.
The big episode order, the largest ever from Hulu for an original, means the show will have enough episodes to go into syndication in the US. NBCUniversal’s sales arm handling domestic and international distribution.
Hulu also gets exclusive rights to old episodes of The Mindy Project, which originally launched on Fox in 2012.
It single cam comedy follows Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kalling), a quirky obstetrician in New York. The star said: “I am thrilled The Mindy Project has found a new home on Hulu, where so many of our fans are already watching the show. It’s such an exciting place to be,” said Kalling.
