Dave wins Storage Hunters UK auction
British entertainment channel Dave has commissioned a local version of truTV high-octane auction format Storage Hunters.
All3Media-owned North One Television will produce the local version of the show, which T Group Productions produces for the Turner Broadcasting System channel in the US.
UKTV-owned Dave’s version will be 10x30mins, and air on the digital channel late this year.
It will “remain faithful to the original concept, a distinct air of Britishness will be added to proceedings”, according to UKTV. It will film on locations throughout the UK, and Dave is currently searching for participants.
The reality format sees fiercely competitive bidders battle at auction to buy potentially lucrative disused storage lockers. The US version (pictured) is currently Dave’s highest rated programming, regularly scoring nearly than a million viewers, according to UKTV’s senior commissioning editor Catherine Catton.
“This commission is another example of UKTV investing in Dave’s expanding slate of home-grown content, which has helped position the channel as the most watched non PSB channel in the UK,” she added.
UKTV’s head of acquisitions and coproductions Alexandra Finlay negotiated the deal with T Group, whose president and founder Jenny Daly said: “Nothing is more satisfying than seeing your series adapted for another territory. We’ve had a wonderful relationship with Dave with our finished version and know the new and original episodes will have the same intensity, humour and downright crazy moments that has made the show a hit worldwide.”
Catton will executive produce alongside Daly and North One’s John Quinn.
