BBC3 piloting disability gameshow from Roughcut
Youth-skewed UK channel BBC3 is piloting a new gameshow in which celebrities have their senses restricted in order to better understand what life is like for people with disabilities.
The project has the working title of The Totally Senseless Gameshow.
The show has been developed Roughcut Television, the UK indie producer that makes BBC3 comedy series Cuckoo and Trollied for Sky. It was founded by Ash Atalla (The Office).
The pilot is being filmed in south west London later this month. It will be fronted by Martin Dougan, who was born with cerebral palsy and was one of the hosts of Channel 4’s coverage of the 2012 Paralympics. He also starred in prank show I’m Spazticus.
The format will strip the celebrity contestants of key senses and then challenge them to perform various tasks.
ITV piloted a completely unrelated show last year called Totally Senseless. It was hosted by Brian Dowling and Steve Jones and featured celebrities taking on physical challenges after having a sense removed. It was never taken to series.
