Netflix to launch crime procedural set in four different countries

Netflix is set to launch Criminal, a new format-bending procedural series that comprises of 12 unique stories set in four different countries: France, Spain, Germany and the UK.

Criminal is a police procedural with a unique premise: it takes place exclusively within the confines of a police interview suite.

Each episode, 12×45-minutes, will be in local language, written and directed by talent from their respective countries. There will be three episodes focusing on each territory.

All 12 episodes of Criminal will film at Netflix’s production hub at Ciudad de la Tele in Madrid.

Series showrunners will include Killing Eve’s George Kay, and The Wrong Mans’ Jim Field Smith. Kay and Field Smith will also write, direct, and executive produce the series for the UK episodes.

For Germany, Frederic Mermoud serves as writer, director and co-executive producer. Antonin Martin-Hilbert will write with Mathieu Missoffe.

In Spain, Mariano Barroso will director and co-executive produce and Alejandro Hernández and Manuel Martín Cuenca will write.
