Netflix buys Rob Schneider comedy

Streaming service Netflix has acquired comedian Rob Schneider’s self-funded scripted series.

The deal with distributor Tricon Films & Television is for rights in the US, Latin American, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand to Real Rob, which is loosely based on the American comic’s life with his younger Mexican wife.

As the show has not had a broadcast home to this point, it is likely Netflix will brand Real Rob as a ‘Netflix Original’.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled to have our audience watch Real Rob on the best platform in the world,” said Schneider, who is known for appearances on NBC’s Saturday Night Live and movies such as Deuce Bigalo: Male Gigolo.

The eight-episode show, which Schneider produced and directed, will debut on Netflix on December 1.

Schneider will be in Cannes this year promoting the show.
