Fruit Ninja app gets TV treatment

Fruit-Ninja-LogoThe Fruit Ninja app is being adapted into a kids TV series.

The app’s developer Halfbrick Studios acquired The People’s Republic of Animation (PRA) earlier this year and the toon studio will make the Fruit Ninja TV series.

The 52x11mins project does not have a confirmed broadcaster attached, but UK-based distributor Cake will be handling international sales and helping to develop the project.

The Fruit Ninja app has been downloaded 500 million times and has 70 million active users. The TV series will be aimed at 6-to-11s.

Tom van Waveren, CEO of Cake said: “Fruit Ninja has millions of fans and followers around the world, getting the opportunity to help develop linear content to extend their Fruit Ninja experience is a unique challenge and one we are proud to have been chosen for.”

PRA, meanwhile, is developing TV content based on other Australia-based Halfbrick apps, which include Age of Zombies, Monster Dash and Fruit Ninja spin-off Fruit Ninja: Puss in Boots.
