Temple Street sets up shop in US

Canadian producer Temple Street Productions is heading south of the border and opening a factual content office in LA as part of plan to boost its output.

Additionally, Toronto-based Temple Street has hired former Discovery Studios and BBC Worldwide exec Tayfun King to become US head of development, factual entertainment, who will work out of the new office and report into Gerry McKean, VP, factual entertainment, who is relocating to head up the venture.

King’s credits include ABC’s Dancing with the Stars, NBC’s Grease: You’re the One That I Want and MTV’s Top Pop Group.

Temple Street is also planning to open LA bases for its scripted and digital initiatives.

“We’re committed to enhancing the company’s profile as a producer of high quality content across all genres,” commented co-presidents David Fortier and Ivan Schneeberg. “The opening of the US office in Los Angeles is an important and strategic next step in the continued growth of Temple Street. We are very excited to be seeking out additional opportunities in the scripted, unscripted and digital landscape.”

The news comes a month after Temple Street opened digital prodcoBoat Rocker Studios.

The company makes shows including BBC America drama Orphan Black (pictured).
