Amplify Pictures lands Great Mountain investment & names Netflix exec as content chief

100 Foot Wave

100 Foot Wave producer Amplify Pictures has sold a minority stake in the business to investment firm Great Mountain Partners (GMP), while adding a former Netflix exec and the co-founder of This is Just a Test Media to its management team.

Details of the investment have not been revealed but Amplify said it had been “earmarked” to drive original series production, with plans to produce unscripted and scripted series.

Rachel Eggebeen

GMP already owns stakes in businesses including A24, AiMi, Concord, The Confluential Company, Rise Studios and the Vuelta Group.

Amplify has also hired Rachel Eggebeen as chief content officer and named Colin King Miller as COO, with both execs taking on founding partnership roles alongside founder and former Amazon Studios exec Joe Lewis.

Eggebeen will be based out of Amsterdam and oversees the expansion of Amplify Pictures’ content slate and team, working with writers, directors and producers globally.

She previously worked across Netflix’s output in Europe, Middle East and Africa, gaining credits on shows including 1899, Transatlantic, Unorthodox and Lupin. Before that five-year spell she was at Fox 21.

Miller will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations at Amplify, including production, finance and legal, and alongside Lewis, will lead the company’s independent TV business model while exploring strategic growth areas for the business.

Miller is co-founder & president of This is Just a Test Media (TIJAT), where he oversaw all day-to-day operations, and executive produced more than 250 episodes of TV for networks including Discovery, Nat Geo, A&E, History and USA.

Lewis, who founded Amplify in 2018, said: “I am thrilled to welcome Rachel and Colin to our team. Their passion for global storytelling, love of creative risks and their incredible experience aligns perfectly with our mission to provide creators and filmmakers all the resources to bring the most incredible series to life.”
