Exclusive: Beta Film extends French slate with 2 thriller ‘Prison Island’

Prison Island (L’Ile Prisonnière)

Beta Film has expanded its French offering by picking up international distribution rights to France 2 hostage thriller Prison Island (aka L’Ile Prisonnière).

The six-hour drama is produced by Cinétévé, and was created and co-written by author Michel Bussi, with Elsa Bennet and Hippolyte Dard (The Art of Crime) directing.

The series takes place off the coast of Brittany and follows a group of armed activists as they take the whole population of an island hostage. Despite being highly organised, their motives remain a secret, with the plan exposing divides when five islanders manage to escape and hide.

Jérôme Vincendon, EVP of French-speaking Europe at Beta, said: “The series combines a captivating story with beautiful scenery and locations, certainly a recipe to continue the recent success of Beta’s French slate. I hope this is the beginning of a fruitful collaboration on series with Cinétévé.”

The drama is the latest French addition for Beta, which is also behind Thalie Images’ The Island Of Thirty Coffins.
