HBO Max extends cooking spree with Dan Levy’s ‘Big Brunch’
HBO Max has expanded its culinary competition offerings with a brunch-focused show from Schitt’s Creek co-creator and star Dan Levy.
The Big Brunch is being produced by Chef’s Table prodco Boardwalk Pictures and will attempt to find the most inspiring undiscovered culinary voices from the US as they attempt to impress with dishes to be served between 11am and 3pm.
Chefs will also share their personal stories and business dreams, while competing for “a life altering prize”.
The show has been created by Levy, who will also host, and is currently seeking contestants. It will premiere on the WarnerMedia streamer next year.
Levy said the show was for “local culinary heroes of America who deserve a spotlight,” before adding: “That, and who doesn’t want to watch maple syrup being poured slowly over a golden stack of perfectly cooked, creme brûlée inspired French toast?”
Sarah Aubrey, head of original content at HBO Max, said: “What we love about this special show is that it serves more than mouth-watering culinary delicacies; it’s about heart, a love of cooking and spotlighting talent whose unique skills elevate the beloved brunch menu.”
The Big Brunch joins a growing list of culinary originals for HBO Max, including a local version of BBC Studios cookery format The Great Bake Off for its service in Mexico, fellow baking competition show Baketopia and a Selena Gomez-fronted series.
Aside from Netflix’s Chef’s Table, US-based Boardwalk Pictures has also produced Street Food, Sex, Love & Goop, and Last Chance U.
