Germany’s Night Train Media (NTM) has taken a majority stake in UK-based distribution company BossaNova.

Munich-based NTM was founded in 2020 by former Tele München Group MD Herbert L. Kloiber and focuses on working as a developer, coproducer, financing partner and distribution specialist for in-house and third-party projects. It is backed by German financier Serafin Group.

BossaNova was launched by TCB Media Rights co-founders Paul Heaney and Dina Subhani late last year. Financial details of the acquisition have not been revealed.

The deal will see NTM providing BossaNova with access to an acquisition fund to co-create and co-fund projects by matching producers with relevant platforms or broadcasters.

Earlier this year BossaNova unveiled its inaugural distribution slate, which included shows such as Stampede Productions’ Borderforce USA, the third season of which has been deficit financed by the company.

BossaNova has also been expanding its exec ranks with the addition of Banijay alum Tatjana Kostovski marking its first senior commercial hire, as revealed by TBI.

Kloiber said: “As NTM continues to diversify and dive into the factual space, we are thrilled to have found BossaNova. Paul’s track record building distribution assets, his market standing and vision are second to none. We are hugely excited to be working together and to mark this exciting chapter in NTM’s expansion with the BossaNova team.”

Heaney added: “We feel we have met the perfect commercial and creative partners for BossaNova in NTM. With its Serafin backing it has the necessary financial stability and integrity to assure we can grow BossaNova across the long term not just the short and get projects off the ground and on screen coupled with a dedication to creating excellent content.”
