HBO Max orders fantasy medical drama, with Damon Lindelof & Matt Reeves

WarnerMedia-owned streamer HBO Max has ordered a fantasy medical drama series from British filmmaker Oscar Sharp, Damon Lindelof and Matt Reeves.

The Human Conditions will be produced The Batman director Reeves’ US prodco 6th & Idaho, alongside UK-based firm Brightstar and Warner Bros. Television (WBTV).

Sharp (Sunspring) will write and direct, and executive produce alongside Lindelof and Reeves (who both have overall deals with WBTV), as well as Daniel Pipski and Rafi Crohn from 6th & Idaho and Brightstar founders Tanya Seghatchian (The Crown) and John Woodward (Cold War).

The series will tell the story of a young British doctor who treats fantastical illnesses by healing the emotional problems causing them.

Lindelof, creator of HBO superhero drama Watchmen, is also currently attached to the mysterious, upcoming Peacock series Mrs Davis, which is keeping plot details secretively under wraps.

Reeves, meanwhile, is directing, writing and producing the superhero feature film The Batman, as well as a Gotham City Police Department-focused spin-off and animated series for HBO Max. His production company 6th & Idaho is also working on the upcoming Ordinary Joe for NBC, and recently produced Tales From The Loop for Amazon Prime Video.
