Apple orders J.J. Abrams music dramedy
Apple has ordered a J.J. Abrams musical dramedy named Little Voices, which will star Waitress duo Sara Barielles and Jessie Nelson.
The company made a straight-to-series order of ten episodes, which will feature original music from Barielles.
Little Voices has been described as a love letter to the diverse musicality of New York and explores the universal journey of finding your authentic voice in your early 20s.
It is produced by Abram’s Bad Robot Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Abrams will executive produce along with Barielles and Nelson as well as Bad Robot’s Ben Stephenson.
The title is based on Barielles’ debut album, which landed in 2007. Her single Love Song from the album was a number one hit in a range of countries and she won Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the Grammy’s in the same year.
Abrams has a string of high profile titles under his Bad Robot banner, including HBO’s Westworld and Hulu’s Castle Rock.
Little Voices is the latest in a string of titles ordered by Apple as it preps to launch its originals slate in spring/summer 2019.
