Mediapro builds content team with ex-Turner exec
Spain-based producer Mediapro Group has hired a content chief for its Argentinian operation, as part of a wider plan to expand internationally.
Jimena Hernández has been named director of content for Mediapro Argentina, following the appointment of Laura Fernández Espeso as international content chief last year and the addition of ex-Keshet International exec Ran Tellem.
Hernández joins from Argentinian prodco Pol-ka, where for the past three years she has overseen international programming as content manager. She has also worked at Turner’s Latin American arm and Argentina-based production group Claxson.
At Mediapro, she will focus on developing new content in Argentina and the surrounding region. The company has produced in the territory previously through Promofilm, which is behind shows such as Sopresa y ½, 12 Corazones and El Conquistador del Fin del Mundo.
Mediapro recently struck a deal with prolific Argentinian producer Daniel Burman.
“The content market increasingly demands the identification of new and ground-breaking business models that enable us to generate attractive businesses options for companies,” said Hernández.
“Drawing on the wealth of Mediapro’s creative talent, content development capacity and strategic alliances, we will identify opportunities for coproduction, sales and export formats from Argentina to the world.”
Mediapro is one of Spain’s biggest production groups, recently investing and coproducing Sky, HBO and Canal+ drama The Young Pope.
The company hired GroupM Entertainment’s Stephen Johnstone in October 2016.
