Netflix buys Je Suis Charlie doc
Streaming giant Netflix has acquired a documentary about the January 2014 terror attack on the French satire magazine Charlie Hebdo.
Je Suis Charlie will be made available on January 7, which is the first anniversary of the attacks on the Parisian office, which killed 12 people.
Netflix acquired the doc from Paris-based distributor Pyramide International.
Daniel and Emmaniel Leconte, a father-son team close to the editorial team at Charlie Hebdo, directed the feature, which follows their 2008 effort It’s Hard to be Loved by Jerks. Daniel Leconte’s Film En Stock produces.
Je Suis Charlie features interviews with Stéphane ‘Charb’ Charbonnier, Charlie Hebdo’s murdered editor-in-chief, and his fellow cartoonist Cabu. There is also footage of protests that followed the assault, and from home videos, news cameras and images from It’s Hard to be Loved by Jerks.
