McG signs with new-look ABC Family
Prolific network and cable producer McG has signed a two-year overall development deal with ABC Family, ABC Studios and cable production division ABC Signature.
The deal comes ahead of ABC Family renaming as Freeform in January 2016 as a play to better attract millennial audiences.
McG’s Wonderland Sound & Vision will develop and direct scripted drama and comedy series for ABC Family under terms of the pact.
McG – real name Joseph McGinty Nichol – currently has four shows on US television, NBC’s procedural Mysteries of Laura, The CW’s long-running Supernatural, and ABC Family’s Kevin From Work and upcoming Shadowhunters.
He has also created shows such as Chuck, Nikita and Fastlane, and executive produced Fox’s popular teen drama The O.C. Wonderland is also behind the Charlie’s Angels feature films.
“McG will be ushering in new ideas and projects to live under our new Freeform banner,” said Karey Burke, executive VP, programming and development, ABC Family.
ABC Family is part of the Disney-ABC Television Group.
