Pope to head Robinov studio TV arm
Katherine Pope will run the new TV production arm of film producer Jeff Robinov’s independent movie studio.
Having launched his company, Studio 8, last year with financial backing from China’s Fosun Group, former Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group president Robinov is branching out into television.
Former Chernin Group president Pope will run the unit, which is expected to independently of the Sony Pictures-affiliated film division.
Pope will oversee a slate of comedy and drama projects, which will be tailored towards US network and cable channels.
While with Chernin, Pope worked up series such as New Girl, Breakout Kings and Touched under terms of a pact with 20th Century Fox Television.
Prior to that she was president of NBCUniversal Television Studios, where she oversaw shows such as Heroes, which is being rebooted for the current broadcast season.
Robinov left Warner Bros. after being overlooked for the Warner Bros. Entertainment job, which went to digital chief Kevin Tsujihara. Another candidate for that post, Bruce Rosenblum, has gone on to launch Legendary Television.
