Comedy Central greenlights toon
US cable channel Comedy Central has okayed an urbam coming-of-age animated comedy series, Legends of Chamberlain Heights.
The show comes from Bob’s Burgers producer Bento Box Entertainment, and will run to ten episodes on Viacom-owned Comedy Central next year.
The show will focus on three high school freshman friends as they tackle life. Comedy Central says it will mix “raucous comedy and social commentary”.
The Simpsons artist Brad Abelson developed the original concept with Mike Clements, Quinn Hawking, Josiah Johnson and Michael Starrbury. Former UCLA basketball players Hawking and Johnson provided inspiration for the characters.
“This show is so relatable because no matter how much of a legend we are in our own minds, deep down we know we have some benchwarmer in us, too,” said Kent Alterman, Comedy Central’s president, original programming.
Bento Box’s Scott Greenberg, Joel Kuwahara, Mark McJimsey and Clements executive produce alongside Abelson and Starrbury, with Hawking and Quinn producing.
