AMC preps roll out of Breaking Bad spin-off Saul
AMC will launch the first episodes of the much-anticipated Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul on consecutive nights next February.
The cable net said the series will launch on Sunday, February 8 in a 10pm slot. The second episode will then go out on AMC the following day, also at 10pm. It will then revert to a weekly airing, going out Mondays at 10pm.
The roll-out of the ten-episode series marks the first time AMC has gone for a two-night premiere. A second, thirteen-episode season of the drama has already been greenlit.
The series is produced and distributed by Sony Pictures Television. It features one of the most iconic characters from Breaking Bad, lawyer Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk. The show is set six years before Goodman meets the central character of Breaking Bad, Walter White.
“Better Call Saul is set six years before Saul Goodman meets Walter White. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny and hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside and often against Jimmy is “fixer” Mike Erhmantraut, a beloved character first introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy’s transformation into a man who puts the criminal in ‘criminal lawyer’.”
In Europe, Netflix has secured SVOD rights to the show.
