Turner feels Oh!K about Asian channel launch
Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific’s upcoming channel, Oh!K, has scored a volume deal with Korean broadcaster MBC ahead of its debut.
The general entertainment-themed network will have first pick on MBC premium content, including exclusives and first-runs, soon after their launch on MBC. Some shows will launch within a week of their Korean premiere.
MBC’s current programming slate includes drama series Diary of a Night Watchman, You Are My Destiny and Triangle, the long-running variety show, Infinite Challenge, and reality show Dad, Where Are We Going?.
“Oh!K combines the best in content with Turner’s proven history in curating some of the most successful channels in Asia Pacific,” said TBS Asia Pacific president Ricky ow. “We are thrilled to partner with MBC in creating what I’m sure will be an iconic brand for Southeast Asia, and we are looking forward to introducing it to the region in the coming months.”
Ow joined TBS last year after leaving Sony Pictures Television Asia.
Yesterday, news TBS Asia Pacific parent Turner Broadcasting System confirmed it would slash 1,475 staff from its global workforce, with the majority of cuts in the US.
