News brief: TNT secures Marvel movie deal
US cable channel TNT has secured rights to the next five Marvel Universe movies.
The Turner Broadcasting System-owned channel will broadcast films including Avengers: Age of Ultron and the third instalment of the Captain America franchise around two years after their theatrical release.
“These movies will play a key role in TNT’s long-term success, especially among key adult demos,” said Deborah K. Bradley, senior vice president, head of programme acquisitions, content strategy and licensing at TBS.
TBS scored the deal with rights owner Marvel Entertainment, which is part of The Walt Disney Company.
