Electus cuts deal for ‘Chinese Fashion Star’
Electus has struck a Chinese deal for The Goddesses’ New Clothes, a format based on its US series Fashion Star, which aired for a season on NBC.
IAC-backed Electus, which is run by Ben Silverman, will make the ten-part series with local partners Dragon TV, Hitao and Blue Flame.
In the show, six female celebrities will design and model clothes with the help of professional designers, with the aim of winning orders from online retailer tmall.com.
“Fashion Star attracted audiences and advertisers in a never before seen way,” said Cyrus Farrokh, vice president of Distribution at Electus. “By coproducing The Goddesses’ New Clothes we were able to localise the Fashion Star format with much more success than we could have done with only a format deal.”
Fashion Star was on NBC from 2012-2013.
