MTV greenlights fantasy drama
Viacom-owned MTV is putting fantasy drama Shannara into production.
MTV will coproduce the 10-part series, which is based on the best-selling fantasy novels from Terry Brooks, with Sonar Entertainment.
Shannara went into development in December, with Brooks, actor and director Jon Favreau and Smallville creators Al Gough and Miles Millar attached.
Gough and Miller will write the show, and executive produce alongside Favreau, Brooks and Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of Titans), who is also directing the first two episodes. Favreau had been previously attached to direct.
The story is set on Earth thousands of years after the destruction of civilisation, and follows a family whose abilities with magic help to continuously reshape the future.
The TV series’ first season will follow The Elfstones of Shannara, which is considered the leading title from the novels.
Meanwhile, MTV has greenlit a fourth season of Catfish: The TV Show.
