Netflix extends UK deal with Fox
Netflix in the UK and Ireland has acquired Homeland and American Horror Story from Fox, extending an existing programming agreement between the pair.
The deal with the Hollywood studio’s TV sales arm, Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution, give Netflix two seasons of espionage drama Homeland and also the first two runs of horror anthology series American Horror Story.
Homeland is on premium cable net Showtime in the US and American Horror Story on FX.
The content deal builds on the existing agreement between Netflix UK and Fox. The streaming service already carries Fox-distributed series including Sons of Anarchy, Arrested Development and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix, said: “These global smash series are two of the most talked about shows in entertainment, and we think that our members are going to love these latest additions.”
Separately, Netflix has picked up exclusive rights to cop series The 100 for its Canadian service. It acquired the series from Warner Bros. International Television. In the US it airs on broadcast network The CW and new episodes will launch in Canada within 24 hours of the US TX.
