Hulu acquires four Smokebomb digital dramas
US streaming service Hulu has acquired four shortform series produced by Canadian digital prodco Smokebomb Entertainment, including dystopian sci-fi show State of Syn.
The shows will roll out on Hulu over the next month. State of Syn is billed as an 8x5mins “3D-enable sci-fi motion novel”, while Long Story, Short is a “provocative” 11x5mins drama, Unlikely Heroes is an 8x5mins adventure show; and Totally Amp’d is a 10x6mins tween musical comedy.
State of Syn launches on January 18. Producer Smokebomb, which is part of the Shaftesbury Films stable, is also creating an accompanying app for the Google Glass wearable technology.
“Hulu is one of the most prominent platforms in the world to offer short-form content to its audiences, and we are pleased to partner with them to extend our slate of digital projects in the US,” said Ryan St. Peters, VP, sales and business development at Shaftesbury. “The caliber of digital content we have to offer from Smokebomb rivals anything broadcast television can deliver, and Hulu has taken notice.”
