Channel 5 buys another Aussie drama
UK broadcaster Channel 5 has acquired Australian drama Secrets & Lies from distributor Cineflix Rights.
The network has already found success with the FremantleMedia-distributed, Foxtel produced scripted series Wentworth and will hope to recreate that with the 6x60mins Secrets & Lies.
The show revolves around a family man whose life is thrown into turmoil when he is accused of killing a young boy. It comes from author Stephen M. Irwin and is produced by multiplatform producer Hoodlum.
Cineflix Rights’s senior VP, programme sales Sandra Piha and senior VP, acquisitions, Noel Hedges brokered the deal with Channel 5’s head of acquisitions Katie Keenan.
Chris Bonney, CEO Rights, Cineflix Media said: “Secrets & Lies fits perfectly with the demand in the UK for high-quality, character-driven miniseries and we’re really pleased that Channel 5 will be making it a cornerstone of their schedules next year.”
The show will debut on Channel 5 next year.
