Oprah Winfrey launching in Australia

Oprah Winfrey’s cable channel will get a branded block in Australia, starting later this year.

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network is a joint venture between the talk TV star’s Harpo and Discovery. The OWN branded block will be carried on Discovery’s Home and Health channel in Australia.

The block will feature the network’s top shows including Oprah’s Next Chapter, America with Lisa Ling and The Oprah Winfrey Show: Behind the Scenes.

The channel launched in early 2011, but has only just started rolling out outside of North America. A block has just launched on TLC in the UK, which has itself just launched in the territory.

Discovery said it is exploring further international launches for OWN.

“OWN programming is the perfect complement to the lifestyle and entertainment shows airing on DNI’s popular female flagship brands. With the block’s successful launch in the UK now under our belts, we are primed to bring this robust offering to Australian audiences,” said Luis Silberwasser, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer, DNI.
