Televisa buys Peppa
Televisa, Mexico’s largest broadcaster, has acquired hit preschool series Peppa Pig from its distributor Entertainment One.
Televisa will start airing the show at the end of the year.
The deal with eOne covers licensing and merchandising as well as TV rights and Televisa’s consumer products division will roll out a wide-ranging programme to coincide with the TV launch. Consumer products will roll out in 2014 after a soft launch later this year.
The Televisa deal comes as eOne confirms a wider L+M deal for Peppa in Latin America.
It will launch a range of merchandise and licensed products throughout the region (excluding Mexico). The first line of products is slated to launch at retail in 2014 in Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Peru and Ecuador.
Olivier Dumont, managing director of eOne Family said: “The retail market for licensed merchandise in Latin America is developing at a rapid pace and with strong partners like Televisa, Exim and Discovery Kids firmly in place, Latin America has the potential to become one of the top global markets for Peppa Pig.”
