Thatcher doc gains traction
A documentary chronicling the controversial political career of the late former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher has sold to broadcasters in Canada, Asia and Europe.
BSkyB-owned distributor Sky Vision has scored sales of Brook Lapping-produced 1x60mins doc Thatcher: a Memoir to Radio Canada in Quebec, ATV in Hong Kong, TV4 in Sweden and Finland, Portuguese pay-tv news channel TVI24, Icelandic media company 365 and Telemadrid in Spain
This comes on the back of renewed global interest in Thatcher’s controversial legacy, which has hit fever pitch since her passing last week and the following announcement of a state funeral. Deep divisions have surfaced in the UK over Thatcher’s staunchly Conservative economic and social policies during her time in charge of Britain between 1979 and 1990.
The doc features interviews with close colleagues, politicians she influenced such as current PM David Cameron and those who opposed her premiership. It also includes rare archive footage of global leaders of the time, including Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev.
