Netflix, Hulu, Crackle added to gaming devices
Nintendo has unveiled the the Wii U and said that users will be able to access streamed TV and movie content on the new games device.
The console was launched at Nintendo’s press conference at the E3 gaming conference and Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime said that in the US the Wii U will be able stream video from Hulu Plus, Netflix, Amazon Instant Video and YouTube.
The news followed that from Sony, which at its E3 press conference said that it was making more video streaming services available via its PS Vita device. It is making the Sony-owned video service Crackle and Hulu Plus apps available to download on its online store, allowing access to both on the device in the US.
Neither Nintendo or Sony talked about making the streaming services available to international customers and both announcements were solely US-focused.
Separately, HBO said yesterday that its streaming service, HBO GO, will launch on the Kindle Fire device. HBO GO is only available to HBO pay TV subs and the premium programmer said it does not have plans to make it available on a standalone basis despite an internet campaign, Take My Money HBO!
