Canada’s Global on board TV adaptation of The Firm
Canadian broadcast network Global will air the TV adaptation of John Grisham novel The Firm, which was picked up by NBC this week.
The Shaw-owned Canadian net will air the 22x60mins series this autumn and the debut will coincide with its bow on US network NBC. It was the first 2011-2012 season programming announcement from Global.
The deal is the latest of several in which the Canadian net has worked with one of its US counterparts.
“This series is an exciting extension of the popular Grisham brand and a key addition to Global’s new fall midseason primetime lineup,” said Barbara Williams, senior VP, Content, Shaw Media. “The Firm is an excellent opportunity to steadily build upon our growing number of high-profile network partnerships, joining the likes of Titanic, Combat Hospital and the #1 new Canadian drama, Rookie Blue.”
The TV series will be exec-produced by Lukas Reiter (Law & Order) and tells the story of Mitchell Y. McDeere ten years after the events relayed in the Grisham book and 1998 Tom Cruise movie.
It follows McDeere and his family as they emerge from a witness protection programme to find past and new dangers confronting them.
The Firm is produced by Entertainment One in association with Sony Pictures Television and Paramount Pictures.
