Viasat launches 3D service
Scandinavian broadcaster Viasat is to launch a 3D service, marking the first launch in the region.
The Modern Times Group-backed broadcaster is going to launch the pay video-on-demand service in the new year with movies including Sony’s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs as well as live soccer games.
It will air matches from the UEFA Champions League in Sweden, Norway and Denmark via its OnDemand settop box and will also air a raft of science fiction and horror movies through the service.
This is the latest high profile 3D announcement as broadcasters in the United States and internationally line up channels and services using the technology; Discovery’s joint venture channel with Sony and IMAX earlier this week announced its programming line up and British pay broadcaster Sky announced its second commission, Atlantic Productions’ Penguin Island.
