FIC acquires int’l rights to AMC’s Walking Dead
Fox International Channels (FIC) has acquired all international rights to US cable network AMC’s zombie thriller The Walking Dead.
This marks the first time the international pay TV channel arm of the US network and studio has taken all rights to a US series, beyond its own channels. It is already in discussion with a number of international distributors to sell the show to free-to-air broadcasters and online platforms.
The 6x1hour series, which is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, is the first series that AMC, the channel behind Mad Men and Breaking Bad, has produced entirely itself.
It is currently in production in Atlanta, Georgia with The Shawshank Redemption’s Frank Darabont as director and exec producer as well as Valhalla Motion Pictures’ Gale Anne Hurd.
The show, which follows a group of survivors months after a zombie apocalypse, will air in the United States in October, closely followed by its global roll out on FIC.
