Sky launches first 3D TV production
British pay TV broadcaster Sky has commissioned its first original 3D production – a feature documentary Flying Monsters 3D fronted by David Attenborough.
The show will launch later this year following the launch of Sky 3D, the first 3D channel to launch in Europe, which is set to bow later this month. It will also have a theatrical release.
Flying Monsters 3D is produced by Atlantic Productions, a UK factual indie that has produced series including The History Channel’s Lost Worlds and Five’s Egypt’s Lost Tomb. It was commissioned by Celia Taylor, head of factual and features at Sky and will be exec produced by Atlantic Production’s chief exec Anthony Geffen.
The show follows the pterosaurs, a flying dinosaur with a wingspan of up to 45 feet that lived over 200 years ago. The 3D nature of the documentary will be shot in association with VFX studio Zoo, which has worked on features including Harry Potter and The Chronicles of Narnia.
