French broadcasters mull joint catch-up service

France’s leading commercial broadcasters are discussing the launch of a joint catch-up service, according to local press.

Pay TV operator Canal Plus and its free-to-air counterparts TF1 and M6 are talking about a joint service, which would provide an online outlet for their programming and also head off competition from NBC, News Corp and Disney-backed catch-up service Hulu, which is currently starting its international roll out.

The talks about a commercial catch-up service started in May, the report said. Hammering out details of the revenue share model has proved challenging, it added.
