TV Land to launch scripted series
TV Land, the MTV Networks-owned adult skewing US broadcaster, is to move into original scripted programming following the success of its reality slate.
The cable network, which targets a 40+ demographic, currently airs a mix of classic series such as M*A*S*H, Gunsmoke and I Love Lucy as well as original reality shows including High School Reunion, Family Foreman and dating format She’s Got The Look.
But Keith Cox, VP, original programming, TV Land, told TBIvision: "We’re going to start looking at scripted programming, particularly comedy. I’m looking at shows like The Office or Kath and Kim, so I’m looking at formats in the scripted space."
The network is expected to pilot five to six shows next year.
"We want to do shows for people 40+. It’s an audience that’s overlooked and we’re looking at shows that are sexy and noisy," he added.
