Canadaâs Global stocks up on US series
As the LA Screenings kicks off, Canwest has ordered a raft of US series.
The Canadian media company, which owns the free-to-air Global TV network, has picked up the hyped Beverly Hills 90210 spin-off 90210 from CBS Paramount International Television. It has also taken Worst Week and Harper’s Island from CBIT.
From Twentieth Century Fox International Television it has taken Joss- Buffy The Vampire Slayer – Whedon’s new series Dollhouse and the US version of UK time-travelling cop drama series Life on Mars.
Canwest also took Sit Down Shut Up from Sony Pictures Television International, which is an animated version of the Australian live-action sitcom of the same name.
Several new pick ups from NBC Universal International Television were announced ahead of the Screenings, including Kath and Kim, My own worst Enemy and Knight Rider.
Canwest, which also runs E! as a joint venture in Canada, picked up eleven new US shows in all. It will announce its full 2008-2009 primetime schedules on June 4.
