Netflix officially drops Spacey
Netflix has fired award-winning actor Kevin Spacey, and will no longer produce TV shows and movies starring him after claims of sexual assault were made against him.
Following reports that the actor and producer had sexually assaulted Star Trek: Discovery’s Anthony Rapp at the age of 14, and other claims since then, Netflix will no longer produce episodes of House of Cards that feature Spacey or release the film Gore, which is led by the actor.
In a statement, Netflix said: “We will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey. We will continue to work with [show producer] Media Rights Capital during this hiatus time to evaluate our path forward as it relates to the show.
“We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey.
After first hearing the news, Netflix said that it would not continue future series of House of Cards further than its current season six. Since then, the streaming service has also postponed production on its current season.
It has been reported since that the streaming service is eyeing a possible post-thanksgiving return for its final season.
