Netflix to coproduce ITV conspiracy thriller
Streaming service Netflix has joined ITV conspiracy thriller drama Paranoid as a coproducer and will roll it out as a worldwide original.
The eight-part series will debut on UK commercial broadcaster ITV before rolling out on Netflix services later this year.
Set in a small fiction town, the series follows a team of detectives who realise the stabbing of a doctor in a kids playground has put them at odds with a formidable global enemy. Indira Varma, Dino Fetscher, Neil Stuke and Robert Glenister star.
Studiocanal-owned Red Production Company is the show’s lead producer. Netflix’s involvement comes after Rola Bauer, who works at Red parent Studiocanal, began a mandate to attract US coproducers to the firm’s content.
In June, Netflix revealed it would coproduce the second season of another British drama, the BBC’s period piece The Last Knigdom.
Studiocanal, which is part of French conglom Vivendi, will handle international distribution.
Red boss Nicola Shindler executive produces, with Bill Gallagher the writer and creator.
The series’ order was one of the last ITV director of drama Steve November made before announcing he was exiting. The BBC’s Polly Hill has since replaced him.
