David Ellender joins Sonar
David Ellender has joined Sonar Entertainment and will be president, global distribution at the LA-based producer and distributor.
Ellender, the former boss of FremantleMedia’s commercial division, earlier this month exited Slingshot Global Media, the LA-based prodco he created in 2014.
He will work across distribution in key territories as well as expanding coproduction initiatives at Sonar.
At Sonar will report to Thomas Lesinski, who was Sonar’s interim CEO after Gene Stein’s exit, and was this week made permanent chief executive.
“David Ellender’s addition to Sonar’s senior leadership team helps position the company for ever greater accomplishments in 2016 and beyond,” said Gabriel de Alba, chairman, Sonar.
“We have a clear strategy, a singular creative vision and an unparalleled commitment to succeed.”
“David Ellender is one of the industry’s most highly respected and accomplished executives,” added Lesinski. “Our commitment to the continued global growth and expansion of Sonar requires a leader with an exceptional understanding of the evolving media landscape.
“David has the skills and experience to lead Sonar’s ambitious growth plans in television, film and digital. David will play a critical role in leading the team and we are excited to welcome him to Sonar.”
Ellender said: “I embrace the opportunity to be a part of this growing and vibrant organisation and to build something special together with these talented, creative professionals.”
Sonar’s current slate includes MTV’s fantasy series The Shannara Chronicles and WeTV original South of Hell. Its upcoming shows include Tom Hardy series Taboo.
