CBS in Netflix, UK net deals

CBS Studios has licensed six shows to streaming service Netflix, new season comedy Jane the Virgin to Channel 4 in the UK and the latest versions of NCIS and CSI to Channel 5.

The Netflix deal hands the streamer exclusive first-window rights in the Netherlands and the six new European markets it recently launched in to Showtime drama Penny Dreadful.

Early seasons of Elementary, Under the Dome and Ray Donovan and library titles Dexter, Deadwood and Jericho are also included.

“We’re excited to have CBS’s world-class programming and Showtime’s acclaimed original series be part of Netflix’s launch in these territories,” said Armando Nuñez, president and CEO, CBS Global Distribution Group.

Jane the Virgin, meanwhile, which buyers received warmly at the LA Screenings this year, has gone to Channel 4 following a deal with CBS Studios International.

It will premiere in the UK on Channel 4-owned E4 next year. In the US, The CW launched the show yesterday, following a young woman who accidentally falls pregnant despite never having had sex.

“Jane the Virgin feels genuinely innovative and fresh, and I’m thrilled it will be joining the stellar lineup of shows on E4,” said Channel 4’s chief creative officer Jay Hunt.

Furthermore, CBSSI has sold NCIS: New Orleans (pictured) and CSI: Cyber to Channel 4 rival Channel 5.

Elsewhere, Sony Pictures Television Latin America has acquired rights to CSI: Cyber and another new season scripted offering, Scorpion. Both will launch on SPT’s AXN channel in the region early next year.
