BBC orders Attenborough Great Barrier Reef series

BBC One has ordered a three-part series about the Great Barrier Reef, fronted by veteran naturalist David Attenborough.

UK indie Atlantic Productions will make the 3x60mins series for the UK public broadcaster’s flagship channel. The producers said that the show will use ‘pioneering camera technology and draw on the latest research to investigate the reef in revelatory ways’.

Attenborough first filmed on the Great Barrier Reef for BBC series Zoo Quest in 1957, and in the new project will show the complexity of this “rainforest of the ocean”.

The series was commissioned by Charlotte Moore and Tom McDonald, head of commissioning, science and natural history and will be produced by Anthony Geffen.

We will be using the latest scientific research and capturing the Reef using super-high speed cameras, new macro lenses, time-lapse and many other techniques to reveal and visualise the Reef in completely new ways.”
