Channel 5 schedules UK Film School’s ‘sexting’ doc
Channel 5 will air its film school-produced ‘sexting’ documentary, Sexters, this Sunday.
The one-off doc looks at the modern phenomenon of sending sexually explicit messages and photographs by mobile phone. It is produced by the UK’s National Film and TV School (NFTS) and marks the first time Channel 5 has commissioned it to make a programme.
Billed as a light hearted entertainment doc, Channel 5 has scheduled it at 12.15, after its Sunday night movie, Dumb and Dumber.
Producer and director Cynthia Colucci, an NFTS graduate said: “It’s a light-hearted programme talking about sexting, which does relate to sex, spicy messages and nude pictures sometimes – but it’s not only about that. It’s also about flirting, love, and emotional insecurities.”
Channel 5 is preparing to show the documentary after its director of programmes, Ben Frow, said there is a line that should not be crossed in terms of downmarket docs and he would not have commissioned Channel 4’s ratings hit The Man with the 10-Stone Testicles.
