Second season of Prisoner: Cell Block H reboot locked in
Wentworth, the series based on cult Australian prison drama series Prisoner Cell Block H, has won a second season order.
The first season of the FremantleMedia Australia-produced series is half way through its run. The drama series has been a huge hit for pay TV operator Foxtel’s SoHo channel and the opening episode generated the best ever ratings, outside sport, for a pay TV show in Australia.
Production on season two of Wentworth will start later this year. It is shot at a purpose-built prison set in Melbourne.
FremantleMedia sells the show internationally and has shopped it to Channel 5 in the UK and New Zealand’s TVNZ.
Foxtel’s executive director of television Brian Walsh said: “This drama, tailor-made for Australian subscription television, is capturing local and international attention sparked by its Prisoner heritage but fuelled by Wentworth‘s own high production standards and the terrific performance of the ensemble cast.”
